NOAMA Medical Education Development Program (MEDP)

The NOAMA Medical Education Development Program (MEDP) is a funding initiative designed to strengthen medical education and scholarly excellence of NOSM University clinical faculty, across Northern Ontario. This program supports members of the Physician Clinical Teachers’ Association (PCTA) in pursuing advanced education and training in medical education, aligning with NOSM University’s mission to foster leadership and innovation in the field.

The MEDP aims to:

  • Support the professional development of PCTA members in medical education and scholarship.
  • Enable NOSM University physician clinical faculty to pursue advanced training and qualifications that contribute to the academic mandate of NOSM University in teaching, training and developing clinicians and faculty in Northern Ontario.

Eligibility 

All current members of the Physician Clinical Teachers’ Association (PCTA) are eligible to apply.

Funding Overview

  • Annual Funding Pool: $150,000
  • Individual Awards: Up to $30,000 (maximum of $15,000 per year for two years)
  • Funding is reimbursed based on proof of payment and continued participation in the program.

In-Scope Initiatives:

  • Recognized training programs in medical education (e.g., Harvard Macy Institute, Master of Medical Education, PhD in Health Professions Education)
  • Graduate-level degrees with a focus on medical education

Out-of-Scope Initiatives:

  • General conferences or educational meetings (e.g., AAMC, ICAM, CLIME)
  • NOSM U faculty development workshops

Application Process

To apply, candidates must submit a full application package to NOAMA at noama@noama.ca, including:

  • Completed MEDP application form
  • 2–3-page proposal detailing:
    • Type, location, and duration of the program
    • Estimated costs and anticipated benefits to the candidate and NOSM University
  • Candidate’s CV
  • Detailed budget (covering tuition, travel, accommodation, etc.)
  • Endorsement letter from the Associate Dean, CEPD, NOSM University
  • Sign-off from the appropriate NOSM University Section Chair

Note: Approved candidates must begin their funded program within two years of approval. Delays require a new application.
